In February last year a new world wide web site was set up in West Bridgford. The site is called West Bridgford Network and you can find it by entering www.westbridgford.net in your browser.
The site provides information on all aspects of life in West Bridgford. If you are looking for a local mother and toddler group, or an electrician, builder or decorator, a restaurant or take away, this is the place to look.
The site will also accept listings for any events or activities taking place in West Bridgford and subsequent photographs or reports that organisation would like to be accessible to its members other users of the network.
Poems and plays written by West Bridgford authors can be published on the site.
Some orgaisations, clubs, schools and businesses listed on the site already have their own websites and where this is the case links are made to make finding the sites easier. Charities and voluntary groups can have their own pages created on WestBridgford.net if they wish. Local business can raise their profile by sponsoring the site and having their own web pages too.
In the first month after www.westbridgford.net was set up there were only 23 visits to the site. Ten months later the site looks set to pass 900 visits per month over 30 visits every day.
In addition to the local interest there are many visitors from around the world who perhaps because of the prescence of the NCCC test ground at Trent Bridge and the National Water Sports Centre want to find hotels, pubs and restaurants in West Bridgford.
Clifford Fulford who runs westbridgford.net in his spare time, has focused much of his effort on ensuring that the site can easily be found and is very pround to note that www.westbridgord.net comes up in the top three in searches on major search engines, like Alta Vista, Yahoo or Google.
"Even with fast "broad band" connections, my experience is that most people are frustrated by the slowness of access to the information.
West Bridgford dot net has very little in the way of bells and whistles. I try to present the information people are looking for as quickly and simply as possible" he says.
A HOMEMADE website with details of business in West Bridgford has been declared a success.
The website was set up 18 months ago by Clifford Fulford using his old home PC.
Since being set up it attracts more that 2,500 visitors a month and experiences up to 300 hits an hour.
The site is mainly used for listings of business and organisations in the area.
Mr fulford said "Even I am surprised at the interest I the site.
"The first month there were just 43 visitors."
